Bengaluru: Liquor is illegally being sold in the city despite the ban on liquor sales. The services are up in speed amid this lockdown.People in Bangalore have found ways of selling liquor via outlets, social media or storing the stock at their homes.
Anuj Kumar, who knows a seller involved in this activity said: “Many of them have stored bottles at their homes and now they are selling it at high prices.”
He added: “Liquor is being sold at three times the actual price. A bottle of whiskey which costs Rs.2, 000 is sold at the price of Rs. 6,000. Similarly, a 100 Rs bottle is sold at the price of Rs.300.”
About the liquor bottles being sold in the outlets, Uday Chandra, a buyer said: “Liquor bottles in bulk are transported from the outlet to our place early in the morning as police officials aren’t found patrolling at that time.”
There has also been news report of a man selling liquor at sky-high prices in Bangalore using Instagram.
Expressing his helplessness, the liquor shop owner, who didn’t want to be named said: “My business has gone down since lockdown. I have to pay my rents and I need to make up for it. I also need to pay salaries to the other workers here. If I can’t do this, I’ll have nowhere to go and my family won’t be able to survive.”
According to various news reports, Karnataka banned the liquor sale on March 21, four days before the nationwide lockdown. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday had dropped a hintthat the sales of liquor maybe allowed for specified hours and duration in the city after 14th April.
