National Film Awards: As it happened

07 Apr 2017:  The 64th National Film Awards were declared today. The Jury that decided these awards was led by Filmmaker Priyadarshan for feature-films category, FTII alumni Raju Mishra, the chair person for non-feature films category, Journalist Bhavna Sumaya, the Chairperson for writing, and renowned Director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi Mudi for Film Friendly Award.

Here’s a timeline of events
11:32 am :    
The 64th National Film Awards to honor the best of Indian cinema from 2016, begins.

11:44 am:
For the first time, the Category of National Awards was opened for online submissions this year. A total of 344 films were sent to the jury this year.

11:48 am:
Uttar Pradesh was announced as the Most Film Friendly State by the jury. This was after an analysis of 16 states. Jharkhand was given a special mention.

“The state implemented a unique film policy. Taking into account that the film medium is not only about entertainment but also a very important vehicle of employment, social awareness and cultural development,” said  Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi Mudi

11:50 am:
G Dhananjayan selected as the Best Movie Critic, of the 33 books submitted in writing in cinema category.

Lata Surgatha bags the Best book on cinema. This book narrates the legendary story of Lata Mangeshkar. The list had many in English but that was outnumbered by the regional writing on cinema

Hum Picture Banate Hai bagsSpecial animation film

11:57 am:
The Best film on social issues had a tie with the two winners I am Jija and Sanath

11:57 am: The tiger who crossed the line awarded the Best Environment Film

Best constume designer:  Cycle, a Marathi Film
Best Production design:    24, a Tamil film

Best re-recording award:  Ventilator, produced by Priyanka Chopra
 Best Female Playback Singer: Emaan Chakraborty for Tumi Jaake Bhalobasho

Best Supporting Actress award: Zaira Wasim for Dangal
Best Action Director: Peter Hayne
Indira Gandhi Award for best debut film: Alifa.

Best Children's Film :  Dhanak by Nagesh Kukunoor 
Best Film On Social Issue: Pink Anirudha Roy Choudhary's
Best Film:  Kaasav, Marathi

Best Actress: Surabhi for Minnaminungu

Best Actor: Rustom  for Akshay Kumar
